Abstract

Introduction: Happiness is the most fundamental concept in positive-oriented psychology. Students are influential and generating forces that need happy environment and mood. This Study aimed to determine factors affecting happiness of students who live in dormitories of Isfahan University of Medical Sciences Methods: This Study was conducted on 120 male and female students living in dormitories using an open questionnaire. Data were coded and categorized and reported as frequency and percentage. Results: Results showed that the most important factors affecting students' happiness before entering the university, were sports (26/4%), television (13/05%), and walking (11/86%). the most recreation programs after entering university were sports (22/9 %), television and video room (12/84 %), computer and internet (8/33 %). Students suggested some programs to improve conditions and increase the happiness. They were providing some inside and outside camps (15/21%), improving beautify of campus (12/64%) and providing recreational facilities and sports competitions (10/5 %). Conclusion: The findings of this research aimed improving students' happiness can be considered by officials and policy makers of dormitories. This aim will be achieved through expansion of existing facilities and purposeful long-term planning

Abstract

 
Introduction: Self-confidence and self-efficacy are two important factors for improving the clinical competence of paramedical students. The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of presenting surgical case report on self-confidence and clinical self-efficacy of operating room students.
Methods: This is a semi-experimental study of two-group, which was conducted on 60 operating room students at Isfahan University of Medical Sciences in 2018. Students were randomly divided into two experimental and control groups using easy sampling method. In the experimental group, case-report peresentation was performed on the day of surgery and presented daily during the course of the training. Pre-test and post-test were performed by clinical self-efficacy and self-confidence questionnaires in two groups before and after the intervention. Statistical tests were t-test, paired t test, chi-square test and Mann–Whitney.
Results: The mean of self-efficacy and self-confidence before intervention was not significantly different between the two groups (P>0.05). mean and standard deviation of self-efficacy after intervention in the experimental group were (42.18±8.27) that was significantly higher than control group (34.31±18.90) (P<0.05) (t=2.09). Also, the mean and standard deviation of self-esteem after intervention in the experimental group were (20.53±5.27) that was significantly higher than control group (15.30±8.70) (P<0.05) (t=2.82).
Conclusion: The results indicate that reporting the surgical procedures and presenting them during the internship period has improved clinical self-efficacy and confidence of operating room students. Accordingly, applying educational aids can improve clinical performance.

Abstract

Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE) has been used to evaluate medical students. The OSCE is one of the evaluation methods in which students' clinical skills are physically evaluated in simulated stations. Although the implementation of the exam was complicated and time-consuming at first, with the modification of the structures and the use of agendas, the evaluation became more efficient. Today, this evaluation is widely being conducted in higher education around the world. However, the method of performing this exam has undergone many changes over the years. More recently, the use of new methods and technologies in applying this exam has been considered. Besides, the COVID-19 pandemic period made the use of educational technologies more obvious. In effect, the need for innovation in teaching and evaluation methods is a big challenge for higher education authorities. Although application of new methods and the use of technologies could solve many of the mentioned problems by this exam, most of the universities in Iran, during the COVID-19, either sticked to conventional methods or postponed. This short article endeavors to introduce and analyze the new methods and approaches on the use of the OSCE; this way, it is possible to pave the way for efficient application of the evaluation in Iran's higher education.
