Introduction: One of the strongest tools for teaching and evaluation of students, especially medical students and related fields is Logbook. The aim of this research was to design, implement and measure teachers and students’ satisfaction with the logbook in the field training 2 course for health services management undergraduate students.
Methods: This descriptive study was performed on 44 health service management undergraduate students and six faculty members of field training at School of Management and Medical Information, Isfahan University of Medical Sciences in 2015. Participants were selected through census method. The research consisted of two stages: design and implementation of the logbook, and satisfaction survey through a researcher-made questionnaire. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and Mann-Whitney and Chi-square tests.
Results: In the first stage, a 21 section logbook was developed for field training and implemented with a group of 22 students; results were then compared with the control group. The mean score of faculty members’ satisfaction with the conventional method was 38± 4.6 and with the logbook method was 36.7±8.1; the difference was statistically insignificant using the Mann-Whitney test (P=0.87). The mean score of students’ satisfaction with the conventional method was 37.8± 6.3 and with the logbook method was 41.6±8 and the difference was significant (P=0.047, Z=175.5).
Conclusion: Using the logbook for teaching and evaluation of field training for health services management undergraduates while motivating students and increasing their satisfaction, provides a consistent method in the educational process of field training. However, in order to achieve all of the goals and minimum learning essentials, the logbook should be reviewed and further investigated for implementation.

Introduction: The anesthesiology BSc program was first started in 2008 in Iran and has been continued so far. The purpose of this study was to provide a critical appraisal of the anesthesiology BSc program according to the Eisner’s Connoisseurship and Criticism Model.
Methods: This qualitative study employed Eisner’s Connoisseurship and Criticism Model to evaluate the anesthesiology BSc program. Consistent with this model, the curriculum and educational environment of the program were assessed in three main dimensions: description, interpretation and evaluation. Data were gathered by means of observation, interview and review of the literature. Results were then discussed and criticized by professors and PhD students of Tabriz School of Nursing and Midwifery.
Results: While other countries offer anesthesiology as nursing MSc program, it is offered as anesthesiology BSc program in Iran. Preliminary codes extracted from interviews were summarized in four themes: inattention to context, uncertainty, lack of differentiation between educational levels, and educational irregularities. Findings also indicate shortages in educational space and facilities for students and faculty members. Hourly-paid instructors who teach students during their work shifts are employed for clinical training.
Conclusion: It seems that due to the novelty of the program and the importance of caring for anesthetized patients, a comprehensive evaluation of the program and making the necessary changes are essential. It also should be determined whether the program has been successful to achieve its ultimate goal that is improving the quality and quantity of care for patients; final decision then should be made about the continuation or termination of the program.

Introduction: Promoting public health through the facilities of religious sites has become a popular solution for different fields of medicine around the world. However, these programs have been less developed in Iran’s dentistry. The purpose of this study was to introduce a novel method of providing dental care using portable units in a religious site and to evaluate the satisfaction of students and faculty members with the educational outputs of the program.
Methods: In This descriptive study, mobile dental units were first moved to the auditorium of a religious site (Zeinabieh) to provide dental care to the deprived patients of that area. All the senior dental students (N=75) were selected through census method. While examining the patients and providing the comprehensive treatment plan according to patient priority, they provided some necessary dental care during two weeks. After one semester, the program was evaluated through measuring the satisfaction of 30 students and five supervisor professors (selected randomly) by using a researcher-made 10-item questionnaire whose validity and reliability were confirmed. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics.

Introduction: Along with the transition from the digital era to the era of cyber-technology, medical professionals have been forced to use different conceptual systems to meet their informational and communicational needs. These emerging scientific concepts each have specific meaning which should be redefined in their own context so that they could be utilized in the conceptual systems of specialized sciences including medical education. The aim of this study was to examine critically the conceptual system emerged from the changes of technology-based learning in the medical education system and to propose the concept of cyber medical education in the medical learning system.
Methods: This semi-systematic review study was conducted in 2015 with a critical approach. The databases of PubMed Central and Google Scholar were searched for publications from 1980-2015 using the keywords “information and communication technology, medical education, educational technology, technology-based learning, cyber learning, medical informatics”.
Results: Integration of the concepts and terms of informatics and learning sciences has introduced a wide range of terminology into the scientific cycle. The extent and diversity of concepts in field of technology-based medical education have made it difficult to manage scientific contents. This paper suggested the institutionalization of the concept “cyber” at different levels of the medical education system for the purpose of medical knowledge management in the contemporary era and development of a specialized conceptual system for the next generation of physicians and other health professionals.
Conclusion: Critical thinking and adoption of smart approaches are essential for reviewing and even redefining some of the technology-based concepts in the field of medical education ranging from basic concepts to designing, shaping and developing future scientific centers such as virtual medical universities.

Introduction: Technological advances as well as science and information explosion necessitate the change in students’ educational needs and in the education system. Researchers consider resistance to change as one of the major causes of the failure of changes. Therefore, the purpose of this review study was to identify the causes of resistance to change and provide solutions to overcome it.
Methods: In this review study, the papers, books and theses published from 2000 to 2014 were searched through databases of SID, Magiran, PubMed, Google Scholar and Eric using keywords such as change of behavior, resistance to behavior, models of behavioral change, change management, and barriers to change. The documents published in Persian and English were included.
Results: Search results yielded 2538 articles, books and theses. Fifty two articles, seven books and two theses were selected based on the purpose of the study after reviewing the publications. Findings of the review were divided into two groups: causes of resistance to change and solutions to overcome those causes. Sixteen causes were found: selective attention and perception, accustomedness, security issues, economic reasons, low motivation, mental reasons, group-related reasons, personal reasons, inadequate time to focus on change, staff non-involvement in values governing change, no explicit need to change, political reasons, lack of support, cultural and managerial obstacles, provision and reversal, and distrust. Several solutions were also proposed to overcome these causes.
Conclusion: There are various causes of resistance to change. The most important ones include economic reasons, security reasons, staff non-involvement in values governing change, and lack of support. Successful implementation of change requires that appropriate solutions should be applied to overcome these causes.

Introduction: Professional values comprise a significant part of the nursing profession. Learning the concept of these values and creating conditions for developing and completing them are necessary. The aim of this study was to examine the professional and ethical values in providing nursing care from the nurses’ perspective.
Methods: This descriptive, cross-sectional study was performed on 150 nurses in Shiraz’s Shahid Chamran Hospital who were selected by convenience sampling in 2015. The data was collected through a two-part questionnaire comprised of the nurses’ demographic information and Shank and Weise’s Nursing Professional Values Scale-Revised (NPVS-R) which measured five aspects (caring, activism, professionalism, trust and justice) in a five-point Likert scale (from unimportant to highly important). The collected data were analyzed using descriptive statistics (mean and standard deviation).
Results: Among the components of nursing professional values, the highest mean score was related to “justice” at 3. 91±0. 79 and the lowest mean score was related to “activism” at 3. 31±0. 74. The total mean score of the questionnaire was 3. 72±0. 53. The aspects of the professional values were prioritized from the nurses’ perspective as justice, caring, trust, professionalism and activism respectively.
Conclusion: The results show that nurses consider those nursing values important which directly relate to their job. Therefore, understanding the importance of certain aspects of the professional values which are related to the nurses’ indirect tasks requires further support, and it is necessary that all of the aspects of professional and ethical values should be taught during the nursing education.

Abstract
Introduction: Assessment is a fundamental part of medical education. A good method to assess students, besides being valid and reliable, should have a positive impact on students’ learning, be applicable and acceptable to both teachers and students. Therefore, the purpose of this paper was to review the results of implementation of Direct Observation of Procedural Skills (DOPS) at Iran’s universities of medical sciences.
Methods: In this systematic review, the keywords direct observation of procedural skills (DOPS), medical science, clinical skills, assessment, and practical assessment were used to find all of the related studies published from 2000 onwards in Magiran, SID, and Google Scholar search engine.
Results: The preliminary search yielded 226 papers. A total of 164 papers were left after excluding the duplicates. By reading the titles and abstracts, 152 papers were also excluded and 12 papers were reviewed at the end. Five papers examined students’ attitudes and satisfaction with DOPS, two papers addressed the validity and reliability of DOPS, four papers explored the effect of DOPS on learning clinical skills, and one paper compared the effects of DOPS and mini CEX with the traditional method on learning.

Introduction: Computer aided education can compensate for some deficiencies and limitations of traditional education. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of e-learning, as an adjunctive method of traditional education, in the form of video clips and PowerPoint presentations on the skills of fabricating the wire components of removable orthodontic appliance in the preclinical course of dental students.
Methods: This prospective quasi-experimental study was performed on 40 eighth semester dental students who were taking the course practical orthodontics 1 in Tabriz School of Dentistry in 2012-13 academic year. Participants were selected through convenience sampling and randomly divided into two groups. The control group received traditional trainings including practical training of fabricating the wire components of removable orthodontic appliance, and the experimental group received the same plus e-learning. The skills in fabricating three major components of removable orthodontic appliance namely Z spring, Adams clasp and labial bow were evaluated using a 21-item checklist. Data were analyzed by means of independent and paired t-tests.
Results: The mean scores of the control and the experimental groups were 14.2±1.4 and 15.5±1.8 (out of 20) respectively and their difference was statistically significant (P=0.026, t=2.31). The mean score of labial bow fabrication was higher in the experimental group than that of the control group (p=0.01, t=2.72). However, the mean scores of Z spring and Adams clasp fabrication were not significantly different in the two groups.
Conclusion: Using E-learning as an adjunctive method of traditional education can improve the practical skills of fabricating the wire components of removable orthodontic appliances.

Introduction: Academic Olympiad for medical sciences students focuses on areas that require reflection, reasoning and problem solving and that are generally neglected in the official education system and evaluation of medical students. Previously, it was administered in three areas of scientific thinking in basic sciences, clinical reasoning and health system management. In order to cover, philosophical reflection and analysis on health issues, Philosophy of Medicine was added to the previous areas. This paper explains the process of designing the theoretical framework and implementing the Philosophy of Medicine Exam.
Methods: Philosophy of Medicine Exam was designed in four phases: developing the framework for designing the exam questions, selecting the topics of the exam, preparing the exam questions and running the exam. Philosophy of Medicine Exams were held for the first time in the seventh National Olympiad for Medical Sciences Students in the summer of 2015 in both individual and group competition phases.
Results: With the contribution of faculties with relevant specialties for 12 months, the framework for designing the exam questions was developed; it aimed at evaluating philosophical knowledge, philosophical analysis and philosophical debate. The topics included ontology and epistemology of health and disease as well as diagnosis and treatment. For the individual competition, 75 questions in the philosophical knowledge exam and four questions in the philosophical analysis exam were asked; 106 medical sciences students participated in this phase nationwide. In the group phase, eight three-student teams competed by debating on three issues.
Conclusion: The Philosophy of Medicine Exam in the Olympiad showed that initiating and promoting the philosophical view in the health domain is achievable. Large participation of students across the nation and cooperation of faculty members suggest that philosophy of medicine could be a crucial interdisciplinary filed in the health discourse, and research and education in this area should be taken into account.

Introduction: Peer education is implemented in various curricula. However, there are conflicting reports of its effects. The aim of this study was to review the literature and assess the outcomes of near-peer education for students of medical sciences.
Methods: In this systematic review, an online search was carried out to identify articles published from 1995-2015 on assessing the outcomes of near-peer education for students of medical sciences. The databases of PubMed, Science Direct, Google scholar, ERIC and SID were searched using the keywords near-peer, education, medical, students, learning and performance. Interventional full-text articles in English or Persian that had used near-peer method in the intervention group were extracted. A total of 104 articles were found, of which 15 were selected for final review after skimming their titles and abstracts.
Results: Research designs, course types, research duration, and the type of outcome varied across the studies. Some of the studies used one-group only design while others had a control group. All of the studies had an only after design. Nine studies examined learners’ skill scores as the outcome. However, three of them did not find any significant difference between the intervention and control groups. Eight studies reported learners’ positive views toward this method, while some of the learners had concerns about near-peers’ knowledge and abilities. Four studies reported that this method had enhanced teachers’ confidence and teaching skills. However, some of the teachers were concerned about the adequacy of the transferred knowledge.
Conclusion: Near-peer education can enhance learning and performance, teaching skills and confidence of both students of medical sciences and near-peers.

Introduction: Learning contract is an individual and dynamic process through which students become self-directed and proactive in learning. Several studies have underscored using this method in nursing education. The purpose of this paper was to review benefits, limitations and administrative methods of learning contracts in nursing clinical education.
Methods: This paper is a narrative review. Databases of PubMed, Elsevier, Magiran and SID were searched for publications using the keywords “learning contracts”, “self-directed learning”, “nursing education”, “clinical education” or a combination of these words. At the end, out of the 47 publications found on the topic of learning contracts, 21 papers published from 1990-2015 were selected and analyzed according to the inclusion and exclusion criteria.
Results: Findings were summarized in three domains: benefits, limitations and administrative methods of learning contracts. The learning contracts approach would bring about both benefits and limitations in areas related to teachers and students. Despite the limitations, it may allow learners to engage in choosing and focusing on specific theories and skills related to various clinical situations, and to take responsibility for their own learnings. Also, the administrative methods of learning contracts can be used in 6 different steps.
Conclusion: Learning contracts, as an effective method of clinical education focusing on professionalism, communication, teamwork, and continuing scientific literacy, can be implemented in training efficient and autonomous nurses. Therefore, authorities and planners should consider learning contracts in clinical education programs.

Introduction: Developing continuing medical education (CME) programs should be based on assessments of learners’ needs. On the other hand, one of the prevalent problems in Iran is the excessive use of blood products, and the highest demand for blood transfusion is related to surgical wards. Hence, the purpose of this study was to assess the educational needs of anesthesiologists and surgeons in transfusion medicine.
Methods: This survey was carried out on a convenience sample of 134 anesthesiologists and surgeons in Isfahan. The educational need assessment was administered using two valid and reliable researcher-made questionnaires: self-assessment and knowledge assessment. Cronbach’s alphas were calculated at 0.958 for information self-assessment questions, 0.981 for educational needs questions, and 0.72 for knowledge assessment questions. Data were imported to Excel Software. Distribution frequency indices and Pearson correlation coefficient test were used respectively to analyze the data and compare the findings.
Results: The majority of participants were male (70.9%) with a mean work experience of 15.9±8.8 years. 65.8 percent of the participants evaluated their knowledge at an “average level”. The most important educational need was about cryoprecipitate and the least important was related to packed red blood cells. The mean score of knowledge assessment questions was 6.60±0.24 (out of 20). There was a significant correlation between self-assessment mean scores and the knowledge assessment mean scores and the frequency of encountering blood products (P≤0.0001). No significant correlation was found between the educational need assessment mean scores and the self-assessment mean scores and the frequency of encountering blood products (P=0.23).
Conclusion: Given the findings of the present need assessment and little knowledge of the physicians, it is suggested that an appropriate educational program should be developed for surgeons and anesthesiologists. Such program could be offered in the form of continuing education programs for graduates. Further research is needed to make decision about how transfusion medicine should be introduced into the anesthesiology and surgery residency programs.

kord_b@yahoo.com
Introduction: Subjective well-being is one of the important constructs of mental health and identifying the factors affecting it is of paramount importance. Hence, the purpose of this study was to predict the subjective well-being of nursing students based on mindfulness and self-compassion.
Methods: In this descriptive-correlational study, 250 nursing students of Mahabad Islamic Azad University were selected through convenience sampling in 2015. Data collection tools included three valid and reliable scales: Molavi’s subjective well-being, Baer’s mindfulness, and Neef’s self-compassion. Data were analyzed using Pearson correlation coefficient and regression analysis.
Results: Findings showed that there was a significant positive correlation between mindfulness, self-compassion and subjective well-being. Regression analysis indicated that the variables of mindfulness and self-compassion play a significant role in explaining the subjective well-being variance, totally predicting 31% of it. Beta coefficients obtained were (β=0.182 and p<0.0001) and (β=0.145 and p<0.0001) for mindfulness and self-compassion respectively. These findings suggest that mindfulness has a greater role in predicting nursing students’ subjective well-being.
Increased mindfulness and self-compassion can be used to enhance nursing students’ subjective well-being as well as to improve their life satisfaction.

Introduction: Increasing development of technology and information has created changes in the field of teaching and learning. For effective learning, e-learning design should be based on educational principles. The purpose of this study was to compare the effectiveness of e-learning content based on two educational approaches (constructivism and cognitivism) on the level of learning and learners’ attitudes in the bacteriology course.
Methods: This two-group experimental research was conducted in AJA University of Medical Sciences in 2015-2016 academic year. Medical students taking the bacteriology course were randomly divided into two groups (n=40). Multimedia e-contents were designed using Storyline 0.2 software on the basis of constructivism and cognitivism and the levels of learning and learners’ attitudes were compared in both groups. A valid and reliable questionnaire was employed for data collection. The collected data were analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics (ANCOVA and MANOVA).
Results: The post-test mean scores were calculated at 12.45±2.70 out of 20 for the cognitivism group and 15.65±1.84 out of 20 for the constructivism group. Comparison of the learning mean scores of the two groups showed a significant difference (p=0.01). Also, the learners in the constructivism-based e-learning group with a general satisfaction mean score at 15.95±1.53 had better attitudes than those in the cognitivism-based e-learning group with the mean score at 11.55±2.66 (p=0.001).
Conclusion: According to the findings, the application of constructivism approach in education and following its core principles can promote students’ e-learning of medical programs and improve their attitude toward the program. Thus, it is recommended that medical instructors should use constructivism approach in providing e-contents to improve the quality of education.

Introduction: Curriculum integration is a newly emerged topic in medical education. Given the importance of integration in improving the quality of education, the aim of this study was to examine the extent and order of attention to steps of curriculum integration in Tabriz University of Medical Sciences.
Methods: This descriptive-survey research was carried out in 2015 on a sample of 177 faculty members of Tabriz University of Medical Sciences who were selected through cluster sampling method. Data were collected using a researcher-made questionnaire whose validity and reliability had been confirmed. Data were analyzed by means of descriptive statistics and Friedman test.
Results: Views of faculty members indicated that there was a significant difference between the extent and order of attention to integrations steps in terms of ranking (X2=744.421, P= 0.0001). The highest mean scores and standard deviations of integration steps were respectively related to step-4 nesting (4.03±0.76), step-1 isolation (3.59±0.71), step-2 awareness (3.26±0.92), step-3 harmonization (2.99±1.13), step-9 multidisciplinary (2.98±1.18), step-8 complementary (2.26±1), step-11 transdisciplinary (2.23±1), step-10 interdisciplinary (2.23±0.87), step-7 correlation (2±0.88), step-6 sharing (1.92±0.91), step-5 temporal harmonization (1.63± 0.59).
Conclusion: Results showed that the highest and lowest mean scores were related to the fourth (nesting) and fifth (temporal harmonization) steps respectively. It therefore seems that moving up to higher steps of integration requires close cooperation of faculty members (curriculum presenters) and curriculum experts and planners (curricularists), and full power of educational departments for designing and developing curriculum according to temporal and spatial requirements.

Introduction: In motivation and learning areas, achievement goals are of special importance whose behavioral outcome is academic achievement. Goal Orientation (GO) is based on the premise that human behavior is purposeful and people are driven by goals. Therefore, it has motivational implications for learning and performance. The purpose of this paper was to examine the relationship between GO and academic achievement in dental students.
Methods: This study was a descriptive, cross-sectional research. The population consisted of all dental students of Shiraz University in 2013-14 who had passed the basic sciences course. A total of 120 dental students (Shiraz university=60, international branch=60) were selected by simple random sampling. Students’ grade-point average and Buffard’s academic goal orientation questionnaire were respectively the criteria for academic achievement and assessing GO. Data were analyzed by means of Pearson correlation coefficient and two-way ANOVA.
Results: Students’ mean scores were 33.17±3.36 (out of 30) for the mastery GO, 27.85±3.51 for the performance GO, and 23.20±5.23 (out of 35) for the avoidance GO. Academic achievement had a positive relationship with mastery GO (p<0.0001, r=0.83) and performance GO(p<0.004, r=0.46) and negative relationship with avoidance GO (p<0.007, r=-0.91). It had a positive relationship with performance GO (p<0.0001, r=0.56) in male students and with mastery GO (p<0.001, r=0.63) and performance GO (p<0.005, r=0.42) in female students. Students of Shiraz University and international branch were significantly different in avoidance GO (p=0.001, f=11.27). Males were more performance-oriented (p=0.002, f=5.84) while females were more mastery-oriented (p=0.01, f=2.15).
Conclusion: Considering the present results and educability of GO, dental education system should plan for improving internal motivation and directing students toward favorable GO.

Introduction: One of the most important goals of universities across the world is to train entrepreneur graduates. Therefore, special attention should be given to variables that can affect entrepreneurial characteristics. The aim of this study was to examine the correlation of critical thinking disposition and achievement goal orientation with student entrepreneurial characteristics.
Methods: The statistical population of this descriptive-correlational research consisted of all undergraduate students of nursing and midwifery and paramedical faculties at Kermanshah University of Medical Sciences in 2015-2016 academic years. The sample included 307 subjects who were selected through proportionate stratified random sampling (based on the faculty). Research tools were critical thinking disposition (Ricketts, 2003) and achievement goal orientation (Elliot & McGregor, 2001) questionnaires, and entrepreneurial characteristics scale (Kordnaeej et al, 2006). Data were analyzed using mean and standard deviation, Pearson correlation coefficient and multiple regression.
Results: Findings showed that the mean of student entrepreneurial characteristics traits were at a very strong level (356.11±31.79). The correlation of critical thinking disposition (r= 0.357, p≤ 0.01) and achievement goal orientation (r= 0.306, p≤0.01) with characteristics of entrepreneurship was found to be significant. The components creativity (βeta=0.431) and cognitive maturity (βeta=0.348) of critical thinking disposition, and mastery-tendency (βeta=0.428) and mastery-avoidance (βeta=0.296) of achievement goal orientation were predictors of students’ entrepreneurial characteristics.
Conclusion: Results showed that critical thinking disposition and achievement goal orientation were significantly correlated with entrepreneurship characteristics. Therefore, considering the educability of entrepreneurship, these two variables should be taken into account in developing educational programs for entrepreneurship.

Introduction: Assessment and identification of factors and motivations affecting medical major selection could be effective in training committed physicians and improving society’s general health. The aim of this study was to assess the factors and motivations which affect medical students’ major selection.
Methods: In this descriptive cross-sectional study, opinions of 351 medical students of Ahvaz Jundishapur University of Medical Sciences who were selected by means of census method in 2014-15 were analyzed. Data were collected by a 22-item questionnaire whose validity was verified by experts. Its reliability was confirmed by Cronbach’s alpha at 0.84. Descriptive statistical tests, independent t-test and ANOVA were used to analyze the data.
Results: 185 students (57.5%) were female and 191 (61%) were natives of Khuzestan Province and their average age was 22.33±3.7 (18-32 years old). According to the mean scores, individual motivations and serving the society (3.07±0.69), employment, high income and social status (3.01±0.68) and interest in the medical field (2.87±0.98) were the most important factors affecting medical major selection. The role of family and friends in female students’ major selection was significantly more important than male students (p=0.03, F=1.255). Comparison of the views of students divided by their year of entrance to the university showed that the mean score of students’ views in most of the aspects decreases significantly (p=0.001, F=34.97).
Conclusion: Medical students believe that serving the society, high income and social status are important factors in medical major selection. With higher educational stage, students’ motivation and interest in studying medical fields would decrease. Decreased motivation of medical students during their study should be taken as a warning for the authorities of health care sector.

Introduction: Personality factors in academic settings which are highly intensive in terms of academic pressure may increase or decrease students’ adaptability and affect their academic performance. Therefore, the purpose of this research was to propose a predictive model of academic performance based on sense of coherence, self-compassion and personal intelligence.
Methods: This correlational study was performed in 2014-15 academic year on a sample of 260 medical students of Bonab and Maragheh’s universities who were selected by multistage cluster sampling. Antonovsky’s sense of coherence questionnaire, Neff’s self-compassion scale, and Mayer’s personal intelligence questionnaire were used for data collection. Data were analyzed by means of Pearson correlation coefficient, Bootstrap and Sobel test.
Results: The direct effects of controllability (0.113), meaningfulness (0.116), self-compassion (0.196), forming the model (0.161), and selection guide (0.299) on students’ academic performance were significant (P<0.01). But the direct effect of the subscale comprehensibility was not significant. The indirect effects of meaningfulness (t=3.232) and self-compassion (t=1.60) with the mediating role of the subscale forming the models of personal intelligence, and the indirect effects of controllability (t=2.090), meaningfulness (t=1.65) and self-compassion (t=1.777) with the mediating role of the subscale selection guide of personal intelligence were significant, but the indirect effect of comprehensibility was not. In total, 38% of the variance of academic performance was explained by the variables of the proposed model.
Conclusion: Given the direct and indirect effect of sense of coherence, self-compassion and personal intelligence on the academic performance, it seems that reinforcement of personal intelligence, sense of coherence and self-compassion may enhance students’ academic performance.

Both groups completed the self-assessment nursing student-patient communication skills questionnaire before and after the intervention. The questionnaire had already been translated and its validity and reliability had been confirmed. The students in the intervention group were asked to describe their feelings and experiences during eight weeks of internship (at the end of each week) about clinical events as “the worst communication experience with patients and accompaniers, the best communication experience with patients and accompaniers, the most difficult moment, and vice versa”. They were required to write their experiences in the form of narrative based on Gibbs’s model. Paired t-test, Mann–Whitney, Wilcoxon and independent t tests were used for data analysis.
Results: The t-test showed no statistical significant difference between mean scores of therapeutic communication skills in the intervention group (172.9±12.66) and the control group (162.31±21.66) after the intervention (P=0.07). The mean scores of clinical communication skills were not significantly different before and after the intervention (P>0.05).
Conclusion: The results showed that although narrative writing improved the score of therapeutic communication skills, but the difference was not statistically significant. It seems that narrative writing in clinical education of nursing students could improve clinical communication skills; however, more research is necessary to further examine this issue.

Introduction: One of the key factors in knowledge management is the organizations’ ability to share knowledge. The purpose of this paper was to examine the status of and factors affecting knowledge sharing in Deputy of Education in Iran’s Ministry of Health and Medical Education in 2016.
Methods: This descriptive cross-sectional study was carried out in 2016. Research population consisted of all of the staffs in the Deputy of Education in the Ministry of Health and Medical Education, and the sample was formed by means of census method (280 people). Data about knowledge sharing were gathered by a researcher-made five-point Likert scale questionnaire which measured five dimensions: human factors, cultural factors, structural factors, leadership strategies, and system and technology (total=46 items). Spearman correlation coefficient was used to analysis the data.
Results: A total of 234 people answered the questionnaire and participated in the study (response rate: 83.5%). The mean scores of the five dimensions were respectively obtained for structural factors (2.7±0.46), leadership strategies (2.66±0.54), system and technology (2.59±0.44), cultural factors (2.47±0.51), and human factors (2.46±0.52). The item “to get rewarded in exchange for knowledge sharing” with the mean score 1.73±0.82 had the lowest score and the item “no problem in the rate of available knowledge and information exchange between units/parts of the organization” with the mean score 3.61±0.97 had the highest score among all of the items. A significant relationship was only found between the variable of work experience and knowledge sharing. (p˂0.05).
Conclusion: Since human and cultural factors were given the lowest scores among the examined dimensions, it is necessary to strengthen these dimensions. Improving the cultural structure in the Deputy of Education through emphasis on knowledge sharing seems to be an appropriate solution for effective and efficient use of this capability. Accordingly, offering incentives for staff’s voluntary participation and activities is recommended.

The collected data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and Mann-Whitney and Kruskal-Wallis test.
Results: Ultimately, 274 questionnaires were analyzed. The mean score of empathy in the total sample was 76.62±8.82 (total=100). Mann-Whitney test did not show a significant correlation between empathy score and gender (p=0.19). Psychiatry residents had the highest (82.8±64.96) and orthopedics residents received the lowest (72.5±61.72) mean score. There was a significant difference between empathy scores among residents in different specialties (P=0.015).
Conclusion: Regarding the significant correlation of residents’ empathy score and field of study, it could be concluded that empathy is influenced by the clinical education environment and is a teachable subject for medical students.
