Research perspective at Tehran University of Medical Sciences from the viewpoint of the faculty members

Introduction. Enhancement and continuity of educational quality through the development of research attitude at the university from the viewpoint of the faculty members. This is achievable through identifying the difficulties and obstacles in doing research works. Methods.he above study is a descriptive research using questionnaires as the data collection instrument whose validity, reliability and practicality was confirmed by experts as well as statistical tests. Sampling was done through consensus and returns were 49%. Computations were through the SPSS package. Results.The majority of the studied units (80.8%) held that most of the current research works were repetitive and did not meet the needs of the community (88.9%). The majority of the samples (81%) considered the quality of the research works methodologically weak and unsatisfactory. Major problems in doing research work were financial (97%) and administrative (78%) problems, and insufficient and undesirable facilities (93.5%). 84.9% rated data availability (data bank) in the country unsatisfactory for research work. 88.5% of the faculty members hold that professors were not much motivated to do research work. 82% rated their performances weak. Conclusion.It may be concluded that in order to develop research at the university, in addition to removing the above major obstacles, measures should be taken to enhance the academic competence of the faculty members to carry out research.
